Photography

I have been a keen photographer in some shape or form for most of my life. I started out with a Brownie 127 taking 7 pictures on a film, each one wound on with several turns of a little knurled wheel. An Instamatic followed (remember those flashcubes?) then a Chinon SLR from Dixons which I thought was pretty swish. Then it got serious. Following a spectacular off-road accident (the only injury being to my pride) my DT250 was sold as a 'damaged repairable' and I bought a Canon A1 with the proceeds. This at the time was a state of the art camera - and I built up a fine selection of lenses and other accessories. Much of this was due to the kind encouragement of Andrew Priddy who ran (and still does) a photography business in Minehead. He used to give me interest free credit long before it was invented - I still have the hand-written notes with the amounts I was able to pay marked off. Later I replaced the A1  with a T90 - this is still a beautiful looking camera and was I suppose the last great SLR before auto focus arrived. I still have it, although these days most of my photography is done with a digital camera, which does pretty much everything the T90 would (except possibly 18 frames a second motor winding!!) and although a slightly different shape is little bigger than a cigarette packet.

The photographs on this page have only one common theme and that is that I enjoyed taking them.

Lyme Park, Cheshire

One of the many fine properties owned by the National Trust. If you're wondering where you've seen it before maybe you watched the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice - Lyme Park was the setting for Pemberley
